Martin Kaymer shot a one-under par 69 on Sunday to win the 2014 U.S. Open golf championship at Pinehurst in North Carolina in dominant fashion. Kaymer shot a four-round 271, leaving him nine-under par for the tournament and eight strokes better than American runners-up Erik Compton and Rickie Fowler.

Kaymer became the first German ever to win the U.S. Open. It was his second major title, including the 2010 PGA Championship.

Grabbing the lead after his first-round 65 on Thursday, Kaymer kept the pressure on the field with another 65 on Friday. His third-round 72 allowed Compton and Fowler to close within five strokes heading into the final round, but neither golfer seriously challenged the 29-year-old German’s lead on Sunday.

Five golfers tied for fourth: Americans Keegan Bradley, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Sweden’s Henrik Stenson and Australia’s Jason Day. Each carded a 281 on the tournament.
