Don't look outside, look at your calender. May is officially here Montanans, which means the calender will also tell you that general fishing season opens this month. On the third Saturday in May (May 21st), Montana's 2011 general fishing season opens. Make sure you're ready.

With the opening of the general stream-fishing season on May 21st, it's time to organize your fishing gear and replace anything lost or damaged. While you're at it, don't forget to pick up a copy of the new 2011 Fishing Regulations from the nearest FWP office or license provider. "A quick review of the statewide fishing regulations provides an important refresher for every angler," says FWP Fisheries Bureau Chief Bruce Rich. "The angler's next stop should be the color-coded sections where they will find the specific regulations for each of Montana's three fishing districts."

For help planning your first fishing trip of the year, go online and visit the Montana Fishing Guide at fwp.mt.gov. Montana's general fishing season will close on November 30th. Enjoy!
