Arriving at the Austin City Limits Music Festival, it's easy to immediately notice how this year's event will be different than the past. Instead of the still, hot air, a fresh breeze and cool -- especially cool for Texas -- 80 degree weather surrounded concertgoers. We decided to start our quest at Sphynx, a smaller band from Austin, and they were just the burst of energy needed to start out day one (Oct. 3) of the ACL Music Fest.

Never have men in fur so graciously whipped their hair back and forth. The music was great -- nice electro-pop sounds that had everyone moving, even if it was just a delicate sway.

Following Sphynx, we set out to see Temples, who have a very similar sound to Tame Impala -- extremely groovy. Their songs were filled with strong beats and '60s flare, and also like Tame Impala, they hail from England.

Capital Cities were likely the biggest dance fest of the day, where fans had to be reminded to conserve energy; there was still plenty to hear and love. Hozier had cancelled and another Austin band, Saints of Valory, filled in -- which didn't seem to disappoint anyone.

Paolo Nutini was next, and they were a nice change of pace with a much slower and soulful sound. After the break, St. Vincent pumped everyone up at the RetailMeNot Stage. Her sound was so unique, and she was definitely the best guitar player we saw all day.

Childish Gambino was at the top of the evening, and wow, does he have energy. He easily had the crowd super-pumped and moving right along with him throughout the entire performance. Glitch Mob were the same, and the usual gyrating happened alongside their intense light show.

Last night was capped with Outkast, which was the perfect end to day one. The air had a crispness to it, and it was hard to ignore the amazing time both Andre 3000 and Big Boi were having on stage. It was quite satisfying to watch an older favorite (they formed in '92!) play hit after hit after hit.

Onto day two, and here's to hoping everyone saved enough energy for it after such a wild party tonight (Oct. 4). In the meantime, check out some exclusive shots from our journey at day one of the ACL Music Fest:
