This past May, Harrison Okene was working as a cook on the tugboat Jacson-4 when his ship capsized and sank in freezing waters off the coast of Nigeria. Everyone else onboard died, but Okene managed to survive in a tiny air pocket for 60 hours, drinking only Coke.
UPDATE 3:15 p.m. EST: The lockdown and shelter-in-place orders have been lifted, according to the Yale alert system. Police have been going door-to-door on campus searching for the gunman, though authorities will not confirm whether it may have been a hoax.
UPDATE 2:30 p.m. EST: NBC is reporting that one TSA agent was killed and three others wounded. Airport police shot and may have killed the gunman at the scene. The shooter, whose identity has not been confirmed, was taken into custody after being shot.
As of 12:01 a.m. EST on Tuesday, the federal government closed down. Congressional leaders in the House of Representatives and the Senate were unable to reach an agreement on a budget or a temporary fix, known as a continuing resolution, before the start of the new fiscal year on October 1.
With Congress unable to agree on a budget or even a short-term emergency bill, it's increasingly likely that the federal government will suffer its first shutdown in 17 years. Leaders in the House of Representatives and the Senate will trade proposals on Monday, but neither side is optimistic that they will reach an agreement.
