Portland, Ore. based alt-country act Blitzen Trapper have unveiled a video for ‘Girl in a Coat,’ the latest single from last year’s ‘American Goldwing’ album. The acoustic, Dylan-tinged tune seems to be an emotional ode to unrequited love, and the accompanying clip is appropriately touching. Featuring a collage of what appears to be vintage home movie footage, the ‘Girl’ video tells the story of an old man wistfully looking back on his life.
What were you doing on the night of Aug. 14th, 1997? If somehow you happened to be at the Gold Dollar club in Detroit, Mich. catching a little-known local band opening for Rocket 455 and ‘68 Comeback, you witnessed a historic event: the White Stripes‘ first-ever full live concert. And if you didn’t catch it, now is your chance to check it out, as Third Man Records is releasing a soundboard recording of the gig.
When it comes to big tips, there are big tips, and then there are big tips! Foo Fighters‘ Dave Grohl reportedly left one lucky bartender at the Smith and Wollensky restaurant in Philadelphia’s swanky Rittenhouse Square Hotel something that would definitely fall into the latter category recently when he reportedly laid down $1,000 after ordering a single drink. Yes, you read that correctly — that’s a one followed by three zeros for just one drink.
It doesn’t take a hipster hippie like Feist to appreciate the beauty of catching nature nut Bon Iver under the big blue skies of Colorado as captured in this picture. The Grammy-winning Bon Iver was sound checking as he prepared for his headlining set at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Morrison, Colo., and show opener Feist recognized a gorgeous moment when she saw it. She snapped this pic, later posting it on her Twitter page for the whole world to see.
Considering the wave of grunge nostalgia that overtook rock music in the last year — appropriate, considering both Nirvana‘s ‘Nevermind’ and Pearl Jam‘s ‘Ten’ celebrated milestone anniversaries — it’s equally appropriate that the Dandy Warhols display their Pacific Northwest roots on their latest album, ‘This Machine,’ which dropped last month.
The 2012 Grammy Awards finally arrived Sunday night, and while classic rockers weren’t up for many awards on the big night, they were well represented onstage. Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney and the Beach Boys all turned in top-shelf performances.
Jeff Beck was the classic rocker up for perhaps the most prestigious award at the 2012 Grammy Awards, but modern rockers Foo Fighters took home the trophy. The Foo Fighters album ‘Wasting Light’ beat out Beck’s ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Party Honoring Les Paul’ to win the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
Tonight (Feb. 11) had been surprisingly quiet in the rock world for a night right before the Grammy Awards, but that changed immediately with the shocking news of iconic pop star Whitney Houston’s untimely demise. The body of Houston, just 48 years old, was discovered at the Beverly Hills Hotel; attempts to revive her were unsuccessful. A cause of death has not yet been determined.
Paul McCartney hasn’t won over many people with the title of his latest album, ‘Kisses on the Bottom’ — especially not Brad Paisley. The country superstar went so far as to take to his Twitter account on Wednesday to send out a series of screeds against the name. “It’s only February, but Sir Paul is an absolute lock for worst album title of the year,” he wrote in one note. “Actually, maybe all time.”
Steven Tyler joined Alice Cooper and his stellar backing band onstage Saturday night (Dec. 31) to perform the Beatles classic ‘Come Together’ during a New Year’s Eve concert at Mala Wailea, a famous oceanfront restaurant at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, in Wailea, Hawaii.
