“You simply hold your guitar, and you turn it up as loud as you can and you try not to look at the audience,” Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne says at the start of the new trailer for theupcoming shoegaze documentary ‘Beautiful Noise.’

Coyne’s succinct summation of the highly influential shoegaze movement is unpacked further by the documentary, which was written and directed by Eric Green and produced by Sarah Ogletree.

The film covers leaders of the feet-staring, effects pedals-laden sound, including the Cocteau Twins, the Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and more. In addition to Coyne, the documentary features commentary by genre fans like Billy Corgan, Robert Smith and Trent Reznor, who all can be seen in the above trailer.

‘Beautiful Noise’ is the realization of Green’s 2012 Kickstarter campaign, which surpassed its goal of $75,000 with more than 1,500 backers. The documentary premieres at the end of May in Seattle.
