The Bozeman Police Department WILL NOT be calling you to give you a hard time about missing Jury Duty. Because you didn't. You don't owe anyone any money. Relax.

Here's the official word from the Bozeman Police Department:

The Bozeman Police Department has been made aware of recent scam attempts that have occurred in Bozeman.  Scammers are calling local residents from a 406 area code telephone and identifying themselves as law enforcement officers from various agencies.

They then advise the victims they have missed jury duty and are subject to arrest if they do not pay a related fine.  These scammers sound very official and use this threat of arrest to scare the victim into wiring money or providing prepaid debit cards.

This is a scam. Do not send any money or give out any personal information.  Any violation of a jury summons will be provided in writing by U.S. Mail.  At no time will the courts or law enforcement ask for credit card, debit card or prepaid card information over the telephone.

If you have any additional information or comments regarding this investigation, please contact the Bozeman Police Department at rvanuka@bozeman.net or Detective Robert Vanuka at 406-582-2246.
