Bozeman business and community leaders will get locked up for a good cause next month for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Lock-Up fundraising events.

Participants have agreed to be locked up for one hour as they try to raise “bail,” encouraging family, friends and coworkers to contribute money that will go to help local families affected by muscular dystrophy and other related life-threatening diseases. The lock-up happens on Thursday, Oct. 1. Bozeman firefighters will “arrest” participants on Oct. 1 and take them to Bridger Brewing for the event.

“MDA’s Lock-Up theme helps illustrate what a serious problem neuromuscular disease is and why we need to do something about it now. Jailbirds only lose their freedom for one hour, but for children and adults fighting muscle disease, the loss of mobility & the challenges that result when muscles stop working are progressive and permanent,” Executive Director Michael McMillin said in a press release. “It is thanks to the support from our Lock-Up participants & generosity from community members that we will raise critical funds & awareness to help families who live with these debilitating effects live stronger, longer lives.”

Money raised also helps support MDA’s life-enhancing programs such as support groups and clinics, including the MDA Clinic at Community Medical in Missoula, Benefis Health System in Great Falls, & Billings Clinic in Billings. They also make MDA summer camp possible so kids with muscle disease can enjoy “the best week of the year” at Camp Mak-A-Dream in Gold Creek, Montana and other locations nationwide.
