On Saturday, November 5, the Bozeman Public Library Foundation presents its fourth annual Children’s Festival of the Book from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm at the Library in downtown Bozeman.

The goal of the Bozeman Children’s Festival of the Book is to celebrate children’s literature, inspire children of all ages, and instill a life-long love of reading.

This one-day event will feature author storytimes, panel discussions, and children’s activities, and is the only book festival in the state to be dedicated to children’s literature.

David Shannon leads off the Festival with his keynote, “Wacky & Wild Adventures with David Shannon.” Author/illustrator of the ever-popular “No David!” books, Shannon will share his insights and humor for adults and kids, alike.

The dynamite line-up of participants continues with award-winning picture book authors/illustrators Marla Frazee and Liz Garton Scanlon who collaborated on the Caldecott Honor Book All the World. They will both do readings, which are suitable for the whole family and will be followed by Q & A time.

In addition to the presentations, there will be a panel discussion with Shannon, Frazee and Scanlon talking about where they got their inspirations. For budding writers young and old, there are two workshops to help hone the skills needed to create plot and move a story along. Authors Michele Corriel and Janet Fox will conduct those workshops.

The Festival allows ample time for book signings and personal contact with the authors and experts. During the day-long event, the Children’s Room will feature hands-on activities for the young ones. Building on last year’s success, there will be a catered brown bag “Lunch with the Authors” on site (both adult and child meals will be available for purchase).

All activities are free and open to the public. Educators are eligible for six OPI Renewal Units.
