Mumford and Sons have achieved record-breaking debut sales week following the release of their latest album, ‘Babel.’ Their new album sold an astonishing 600,000 copies in the first week alone, far surpassing Justin Bieber’s ‘Believe’ (which previously stood as the most successful chart debut of 2012 with 374,000 copies sold).
Nielsen SoundScan has tallied the sales numbers for the year so far, and while the overall picture isn't terribly encouraging, there are signs that gains in the digital sector may make up for the softening CD market.
