Coldplay Working on New Album, Not Planning Break

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin had a bit of explaining to do after making headlines with hints of a coming hiatus. Martin recently told an audience in Australia that the group might not be back for three years, and it sent fans into a hand-wringing tizzy. The singer has since clarified his statement, explaining that the band is taking a break from global touring, not from making music. In fact, he's already crafting new tunes.

What Martin meant was that the band might not return Down Under for a few years. What's that sound we hear? Oh, it's just Coldplay fans heaving and breathing a collective sigh of relief over this good news.

In a chat with The Daily Star (quotes via NME), Gwyneth Paltrow's husband said that no break is imminent, since he's feeling good about his job. He's neither tired nor in need of a rest, and in fact, he's been invigorated by the success of the hard-to-pronounce but beloved album 'Mylo Xyloto.'

"I've been writing songs and I'm so fired up about the band's future," Martin said.

He went on to say that he loves his job and therefore wants to keep moving right along. "I'm fortunate to do what I do and no way do I want to stop," he said. "This three-year break idea only came about because I said at a gig in Australia that we might not be back there for three years. That's probably true, but that's just how a world tour works. No chance are we taking a three-year break."
