On Thursday, April 6th, at 7pm at the Emerson Center, The Bozeman Doc Series presents the Montana premiere of the critically acclaimed new documentary, Bending the Arc.

Thirty years ago, a group of improbable heroes came together on a mission that was both medical and moral, and, by everyone’s estimation other than their own, highly unlikely to succeed. Their goal was simple but daring: to make high quality healthcare available to everyone, even in the world’s poorest countries. Fighting entrenched diseases, political and bureaucratic machinery, and the charity-industrial complex itself, these crusaders forced the international community to embrace the idea that health care must be a basic human right in every society, and went ahead to provide it. In doing so, they have changed the lives of millions of people across the globe.

Told through interviews, rare archival material and on-the-ground contemporary footage featuring Dr. Paul Farmer (legendary founder of Partners In Health), Dr. Jim Yong Kim (maverick President of the World Bank), and Dr. Agnes Binagwaho (controversial Health Minister of Rwanda), the film is an emotionally charged, dramatic and inspiring journey with these brilliant and headstrong heroes.

Directed by Academy Award nominee Kief Davidson and Emmy winner Pedro Kos, Bending the Arc world premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

“Sagely blending a vital mix of interviews, archival footage and cinema-verite shooting, directors
Kief Davidson and Pedro Kos have delivered a glorious and uplifting film…Bending the Arc is a heartwarming and radiant offering. Most magically, it transcends the colossal power of its own story to show how individual beings, one step at a time, can right the course of inequality and injustice. Bending the Arc stretches and soars to the highest documentary dimension…a stunning documentary.” The Hollywood Reporter

“The battle for adequate medical care continues today, here in the United States and in places where Partners in Health works, but despite all the hurdles, Bending the Arc is a story of hope. We see the successes of these extraordinary doctors, like Dr. Farmer and the politicians who work with him, like Agnes Binagwaho, Rwanda’s Minister of Health, and realize that through extraordinary effort and perseverance even a single individual can make a huge difference in the lives of many.” Catalyst Magazine
