When recent scheduling conflicts left Christiane Noll unable to perform with the symphony this December, Anne Runolfsson was called to stage and did not miss a beat! Perhaps the ease of her cover was a result of her experience taking the stage mid-performance for none other than Julie Andrews. Runolfsson recounts the evening when Andrews fell ill in the middle of a musical production of Victor/Victoria (a production in which Andrews is famed for playing a woman playing a man, playing a woman) and she was called to take the stage. “You will never go onstage,” Runolfsson was told explicitly upon accepting the understudy role for Julie Andrews. About a year into performances, Anne got a beeper while relaxing at home. “[They said] you need to be here right away because Julie isn’t going to be able to finish the performance, and by the way, we’re not holding the curtain.” Prestissimo, Anne was fishtailing in a cab down Broadway, dashing up to the second floor of the two story stage and joining King Marchan, played by Michael Nouri, just in time for his next line.

In less dramatic, albeit exciting fashion Anne Runolfsson will arrive in Bozeman on Thursday, December 10th to perform Holiday on Broadway with Maestro Matthew Savery and the Bozeman Symphony orchestra. The multitalented woman of the musical theater, concert/cabaret stage, and most recently prime time TV joins the symphony for a spirited rendition of a modern, classic holiday program. Selections include Sleigh Ride, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Ave Maria, Think of Me, Defying Gravity and many more. Expect polished work by the orchestra, tireless vitality from conductor Matthew Savery and a passionate, pure soprano from Anne Runolfsson. The talented musicians of the Bozeman Symphony will elevate these accessible and melodic tunes to Rocky Mountain heights, and Runolfsson’s rangy high belt will absolutely move you. If you haven’t had the chance to attend a symphony performance and have been thinking about doing so, this is a wonderful opportunity. Holiday on Broadway in particular will be entertaining to interested students and families and seasoned patrons alike. Performances of Holiday on Broadway will take place on Saturday, December 12th at 7:30 PM and Sunday, December 13th at 2:30 PM in the Willson Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased online at bozemansymphony.org, or by calling the Bozeman Symphony Society at 585-9774. Thank you to our concert sponsors First Security Bank, ERA Landmark & Allegra Bozeman. Without the generosity of these businesses, Holiday on Broadway would not be possible!
