The good news is that much cooler weather is on the way. The bad news is that today is going to be hot and the winds are supposed to be erratic for many central and southern Montana counties prompting yet another Fire Weather Watch.

According to NOAA and the National Weather Service:

FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING.

IMPACTS: LOW HUMIDITY, HOT TEMPERATURES AND A WIND SHIFT
WITH A COLD FRONT WILL CREATE ERRATIC FIRE BEHAVIOR AND NEW
FIRE STARTS.

COUNTIES AFFECTED:
IN CENTRAL MT: GOLDEN VALLEY, MUSSELSHELL, WHEATLAND.
IN NORTH CENTRAL WY: BIG HORN, JOHNSON, SHERIDAN, WASHAKIE.
IN NORTHWEST SD: HARDING.
IN SOUTH CENTRAL MT: BIG HORN, CARBON, PARK, STILLWATER, SWEET GRASS, YELLOWSTONE.
IN SOUTHEAST MT: CARTER, CUSTER, FALLON, POWDER RIVER, ROSEBUD, TREASURE.
IN SOUTHWEST MT: GALLATIN.

COLD FRONT: FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

WIND:

  • SOUTHWEST 15 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH AHEAD OF THE
    COLD FRONT.
  • WINDS WILL SHIFT TO THE NORTHWEST AT 20 TO 30 MPH
    WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH AS THE COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH THE AREA. HUMIDITY: MINIMUMS FROM 10 TO 17 PERCENT.TEMPERATURES: UPPER 80S AND 90S.THUNDERSTORMS: ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING ALONG THE COLD FRONT COULD PRODUCE ERRATIC WIND GUSTS.
