Temperatures have been warning up so the snow pack is starting to melt off and head for the rivers. This can make a major impact on river levels very quickly, and we're under a Flood Advisory in Gallatin County until Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREAT FALLS HAS ISSUED A FLOOD ADVISORY FOR BROADWATER, MADISON, BEAVERHEAD, JEFFERSON COUNTY and NORTHERN GALLATIN COUNTY.

  • IN EFFECT UNTIL 1015 PM FRIDAY
  • SNOWMELT RUNOFF IS OCCURRING AT ELEVATIONS AT OR BELOW 8,000 FEET, WHICH MAY LEAD TO RISES IN SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS ORIGINATING AT MID-SLOPE ELEVATIONS.
  • LOCALIZED FLOODING IS POSSIBLE.
  • ELEVATIONS AT OR BELOW 8,000 FEET WILL EXPERIENCE DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE 50S AND MID TO UPPER 60S, WITH NIGHTTIME TEMPERATURES ONLY FALLING INTO THE 40S TO NEAR FREEZING.
  • SOME LOCATIONS THAT MAY EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE: BOZEMAN, DILLON, TOWNSEND, BOULDER, SHERIDAN, VIRGINIA CITY, BELGRADE, THREE FORKS, MANHATTAN, WHITEHALL, ENNIS, TWIN BRIDGES, LIMA, JACKSON, PONY, MONIDA, WISDOM, ALDER, SILVER STAR AND TOSTON.
  • PLEASE REPORT FLOODING TO YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY WHEN YOU CAN DO SO SAFELY.
  • A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS RIVER OR STREAM FLOWS ARE ELEVATED, OR PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN OR OTHER AREAS IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT.
