If you're traveling through central Idaho soon, be aware that Magic Reservoir has water running over it's spill way and West Magic Road has experienced recent flooding.

According to the National Weather Service:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN POCATELLO HAS EXTENDED THE * FLOOD WARNING FOR:

  • SOUTHWESTERN BLAINE COUNTY IN CENTRAL IDAHO
  • NORTHWESTERN LINCOLN COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL IDAHO

UNTIL 915 PM MDT TUESDAY

  • WATER CONTINUES TO RUN OVER THE SPILLWAY FROM MAGIC RESERVOIR.
  • WEST MAGIC ROAD AND SURROUNDING AREAS CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE FLOODING.
  • THE STAGE AT 715 AM SUNDAY WAS 11.3 FEET. AT 11 FEET WATER WILL SPILL FROM THE BIG WOOD RIVER OVER LAND UPSTREAM FROM SHOSHONE AND ENTER THE LITTLE WOOD RIVER CAUSING FLOODING IN LINCOLN AND GOODING COUNTIES ON THE LITTLE WOOD RIVER.
  • FLOODWATER WILL ALSO SPILL OVER PORTION OF HIGHWAY 75 AND 46 WHERE THEY CROSS THE BIG WOOD RIVER IN LINCOLN AND GOODING COUNTIES.
  • THE FORECAST IS FOR THE RIVER TO GRADUALLY SUBSIDE, FALLING TO NEAR 9.5 FEET ON TUESDAY.
  • FLOODING IMPACTS WILL BEGIN TO DIMINISH LATE MONDAY AND TUESDAY.
  • THE CURRENT FORECAST IS FOR THE RIVER TO CONTINUE TO LOWER BUT THERE IS A LOT OF UNCERTAINTY IN THE FORECAST FOR MIDWEEK AND BEYOND.
  • SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE SHOSHONE, DIETRICH AND SHOSHONE ICE CAVES.
  • TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS. MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN VEHICLES.
  • A FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING.
