Next year, MusiCares will honor Tom Petty as its Person of the Year with a benefit in Los Angeles on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, two days before the Grammy Awards. It will feature a performance by Foo Fighters, which will be only the second time they've played together since announcing a hiatus back in March.

The organization made the announcement today (Nov. 4) via press release, noting that Norah Jones has also been added to the bill. Other artists who will be part of the evening include Kings of Leon, Gary Clark Jr., Regina Spektor, Randy Newman, Don Henley, Stevie Nicks and Jeff Lynne. In previous years, the concert has featured each of the invited acts singing a song by the guest of honor, who closes out the evening with a mini-set.

Last month, Foo Fighters surfaced in Los Angeles for their annual private concert that benefits local schools. They served as the backing band for a variety of artists, including Sammy Hagar, Paul Stanley of Kiss, Lisa Loeb, Stewart Copeland of the Police, Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols and Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction.

But even though they've taken a break from each other doesn't mean that they've stopped working. Earlier this week, drummer Taylor Hawkins announced that he has a solo EP, KOTA, arriving next Friday (Nov. 11). The six songs feature Hawkins playing nearly every instrument and deal with "life as a rockstar stranded in the suburbs." And according to a fan who ran into him, Dave Grohl is also making new music, although whether it's for the Foo Fighters or another project was not determined.

MusiCares was set up by the Recording Academy to help provide critical financial, medical and personal assistance to people in the music business. Petty is being honored not just for his music, but also for his years of work on behalf of various charities.
