At around 7:30 a.m. this morning, a resident of Big Sky shot an adult boar (male) approximately 5 to 6 1/2 years old. The bear was killed. A necropsy is being conducted at the state wildlife laboratory here in Bozeman. The incident is still under investigation.

Because grizzly bears remain listed as an endangered species, incidents involving unnatural death require a joint investigation by federal and state authorities.

No further information is available at this time. If you have any information regarding this incident you are urged to contact MT Fish, Wildlife & Parks at (406)444-2535.
