For anyone traveling between Bozeman and Butte on Tuesday or Wednesday, please be aware of the High Wind Warning. Predicted to be quite dangerous.

It's not very often we get an advance warning of a wind event, but we'll take it.

Here are the official details from the National Weather Service:

 

  • THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MISSOULA HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND WARNING... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM TUESDAY TO 11 AM MST WEDNESDAY.
  • IMPACTS/TIMING: STRONG WINDS WILL DEVELOP TUESDAY EVENING, PEAKING TUESDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING. DAMAGE TO TREES AND POWERLINES WILL BE POSSIBLE. HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES MAY FIND TRAVEL DIFFICULT TO DANGEROUS AT TIMES.
  • WINDS: SOUTHWEST 35-40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH, BECOMING NORTHWEST LATE. LOCALIZED GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE LATE TUESDAY EVENING BETWEEN DEERLODGE AND ANACONDA.

  • SNOW: SNOW IS EXPECTED ABOVE ROUGHLY 5500 FEET TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING. THE COMBINATION OF SNOW AND STRONG WINDS WILL LEAD TO BLOWING SNOW AND AT TIMES NEAR ZERO VISIBILITY FOR THOSE IN THE HIGH ELEVATIONS. MACDONALD PASS AND HOMESTAKE PASS MAY BRIEFLY HAVE ISSUES FROM BLOWING SNOW WEDNESDAY MORNING.
  • LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE... BUTTE... GEORGETOWN LAKE... HIGHWAY 12 GARRISON TO ELLISTON... HOMESTAKE PASS... MACDONALD PASS
