I won the lottery the day I saw Bruce Springsteen live. Really. He was at SXSW a few years back and you couldn't just show up for the show, you had to be selected by lottery to get in.

August 25th was the 40th anniversary of Born To Run. (It wasn't his first album, but helped to cement his name.) 40 years. A career filled with more than two dozen albums, constant touring and the image of the New Jersey "every man," accurate or not.

Bruce Springsteen is one of several artists who seem to be on the "love 'em or hate 'em" list. (Neil Young comes to mind as another on that list.)

In my humble opinion, however, it can't be denied that Bruce Springsteen has helped chisel American "hometown rock" into the hearts of music fans forever. An icon, indeed.
