Jack White has been talking about his follow-up to 2014's Lazaretto for much of the year, and we think he's almost ready to unleash it upon the world. Today, White unveiled a video called Servings and Portions From My Boarding House Reach.

NPR gave it a particularly apt description, calling it a "psycho-collage of sound; boom-bap, White's signature guitar fuzz, White's not-yet-signature rapping style, old-school R&B, ragtime piano, damaged beats and oscillator balladry ... all broken up by seconds of harsh noise."

Since there hasn't yet been an official announcement about the record, we don't know if the new work will be called Boarding House Reach, and this is what we can expect, or if this is something that he compiled and released into the world on its own.

Back in March, we learned that White was creating demos with an old reel-to-reel tape recorded in a barely furnished two-bedroom apartment in Nashville. "I’m going to try to write songs where I can’t be heard by the next-door neighbor," he said. "And I want to write like Michael Jackson would write — instead of writing parts on the instruments or humming melodies, you think of them. To do everything in my head and to do it in silence and use only one room."

Last month, he referred to his new songs as being "good gardening music or roofing music or, you know, back-alley stabbing music. I’m trying to think of some good activities that people haven’t written songs for yet."

White recorded the album in New York, Los Angeles and Nashville. "I’ve never recorded in New York or L.A. before," he said. "I tried to go to some new places and meet musicians I’ve never met before, and see if I could get to a new place. I’m getting somewhere."
