Jack White’s Third Man Records Wants to Hook Kids on Vinyl Early

Jack White is, of course, an outspoken purveyor of all things vinyl. And while the format has seen a recent resurgence in sales, White and his Third Man Records seem dead-set on maintaining that momentum by getting kids to spin records from a young age.

In that vein, Third Man teamed up with Light in the Attic to create a turntable specifically designed for children. White's label issued a pretty terrific press release (titled “Light in the Attic and Third Man Records Join Forces to Show Impressionable, Young Minds the Virtues of Good Music and Vinyl Records. Parents Everywhere Rejoice.”) for its latest endeavor, making no secret of its mission to indoctrinate today’s youth with the values of vinyl.

The Jensen-designed Third Man Records Children’s Turntable is a compact suitcase turntable with “built-in speakers, a USB port for convert vinyl records to digital, an automatic return tone arm, and is as lightweight as a portable turntable can be.”

The turntable comes in a bundle package that also includes a T-shirt, sticker, children’s storybook and a compilation LP. The latter, titled This Record Belongs To ______, features songs from Carole King, Woody Guthrie, Nina Simone, Donovan and more (see the complete track list below). The storybook meanwhile chronicles the adventures of “five forest pals” that “discover the beauty of vinyl records.”
