The Jesus and Mary Chain Release New Song, ‘Always Sad’

The Jesus and Mary Chain have given us a second preview of their upcoming record, Damage and Joy. You can listen to "Always Sad" below.

Earlier today, they uploaded it to their social media feeds and streaming services, embedding a video on Facebook and Twitter. The clip combines current and archival photos, the artwork from the album and what appears to be lyrics from the new songs, all going by in a rush of camera movement and quick edits. As for the song, the back-and-forth dialogue between Jim Reid and the unnamed woman echoes their last big hit, 1994's "Sometimes Always," a duet with Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star.

Arriving March 24, Damage and Joy is the band's first record from the Jesus and Mary Chain since 1998's Munki. They're now down to just founders Jim and William Reid, with producer Youth and Phil King (Lush) helping out on bass and Brian Young (Fountains of Wayne, the Posies) on drums. The group is accepting pre-orders, which come with immediate downloads of "Always Sad" and the first single, "Amputation," via this link and you can purchase merchandise bundles, including t-shirts and signed lyric sheets, at their webstore.

The day before Damage and Joy hits shelves, they will kick off a tour of the U.K. and Europe at Northumbria University in in Newcastle, England, that will run through the end of April. As of now, there are no U.S. dates scheduled, and you can get complete information at their website.
