Lush’s reunion has hit a snag. Today (Oct. 18), the group officially parted ways with bassist Phil King, which has forced the cancellation of its next two shows. No reason was given for the split, nor was it disclosed whether he was fired or left on his own accord.

The band announced the information on Twitter, with a picture that contained an official statement. “We are very sad to announce the departure of Phil King from the band,” it read. “As a result, we will no longer be able to appear at the Iceland Airwaves and Rolling Stone Weekender Festivals - massive apologies to everyone who was looking forward to seeing us play there. We are in the process of acquiring another bass player and look forward to our final show at Manchester Academy on November 25th.”

One of the leading lights of the shoegaze movement of the early ‘90s, when “Sweetness and Light,” “De-Luxe” and “For Love” were hits on Modern Rock radio, Lush broke up in the aftermath of drummer Chris Acland’s 1996 suicide. But last year, founding singer/guitarists Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson got back together with King, who joined in 1992, and added Elastica’s Justin Welch on drums.

“The opportunities and practicalities of reforming Lush meant that for 20 years it was an impossible undertaking,” Berenyi said. “But we all loved what we did, and the time is finally right for us to do it again.” This past spring, they released the Blind Spot EP — their first new music in 20 years — and a tour of North America and Europe followed, including high-profile slot at Coachella.
