Like many of our men and women in uniform, Marine Corps Master Sgt. Robert Allen will be away from his family this Christmas.

To help deal with the separation, the 15-year veteran of the corps, who is deployed in Afghanistan, wrote a touching song about missing his wife, who is back home in Pawnee, Oklahoma.

According to Allen, he also hopes ‘A Marine’s Christmas Song’ “will help people understand that though we’re willing to do it, [being away during the holidays] is still heartbreaking.”

Allen’s wife Carla says she cries every time she hears the song, and the video below might make you a little misty-eyed too — especially if you have a loved one serving overseas this Christmas. Watch Robert’s moving performance below.
