A predawn fight over a beer Monday left two men hospitalized, according to Missoula police. Not just any beer, said Lt. Scott Brodie.

"It was the last bottle," he said.

The men involved, ages 30 and 20, were friends, he said - at least until about 2:27 Monday morning, when police went to the 1900 block of Montana Street after a disturbance was reported there.

Both the beer bottle and a knife allegedly were used as weapons, Brodie said.

The men were taken to separate hospitals, where each underwent surgery, he said.

One man allegedly was stabbed beneath the arm while the other had cuts on his head, he said.

An investigation into the incident continues and no charges have been filed. Neither man's name has been released.
