Montana State Parks just announced that all Montanans are encouraged to participate in free, guided "First Day Hikes" at state parks on New Year's Day:

This event gives Montanans the opportunity to begin the New Year on a healthy note, by taking a family-friendly trek through a state park close to home! Chas Van Genderen, Administrator for Montana State Parks says,

'First Day Hikes' are a great way to recharge, enjoy the outdoors and work off that holiday dessert. Montana State Parks are beautiful in the winter and we hope that hiking along our trails will become part of your family's routine in the New Year.

The Bozeman "First Day Hike' will take place at Missouri Headwaters State Park. The hike begins at 11 am on January 1, 2014. Meet at the main picnic area next to the Gallatin River. The hike will be from Fort Rock to other areas of the park. A Park Ranger will lead the tour. For more information on the hike, as well as others offered on New Year's Day in Montana, visit stateparks.mt.gov.
