The latest maps from NOAA indicate large portions of Montana under severe drought conditions per the Palmer Drought Severity Index.

This latest map from NOAA is from July 30th, 2016 and we've only experienced hot weather since then.

Tomorrow's high is expected to reach at least the low 90s in the Bozeman area.

The official definition for the Palmer Drought Index:

  • The Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) uses readily available temperature and precipitation data to estimate relative dryness.
  • It is a standardized index that spans -10 (dry) to +10 (wet). It has been reasonably successful at quantifying long-term drought.
