Muse Preparing Extended Reissues of First Two Albums

Gavin Bond

Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has revealed that the band are preparing extended versions of their first two albums, Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry. The records, which originally appeared in 1999 and 2001 respectively, are to be re-released with additional material, under the provisional title Origins of Muse. No further details have been revealed.

Responding to a fan query on Twitter about how many unheard songs would be featured, Bellamy said, “I prefer the term ‘terrible early demos’ not songs haha. A few.” He later added, “First two albums plus early demos and rare stuff etc. A kind of autobiography of music.”

The band’s seventh album, Drones, was released in 2015. They launched a video for standalone track “Dig Down” last week, and Bellamy confirmed further material would arrive before their eighth LP, expected in mid-2018. “The good thing is we’re going to put out songs like ‘Dig Down’ ahead of the album,” he told Radio X last week. “We’re going to put out at least another three songs, or even more.

“People are going to see into the creative process as we’re writing and recording, and we’re going to put them out quite soon after. Even though the overall album will be a long wait, some of the songs are going to available way ahead of that.”

Muse began a U.S. tour earlier this week, taking a break to make headline appearances at the U.K’s Reading and Leeds festivals, before completing North American run in September. In another tweet, Bellamy said the band were considering the idea of building their Reading and Leeds sets out of fan requests.
