The death of producer Phil Ramone today (March 30) has shaken the music industry. As the news of his loss broke, many musicians rushed to Twitter to express their thoughts on him.

As befits someone who was in the business for more than 50 years -- and worked with nearly every big name imaginable -- tributes came from all across the musical spectrum. They range from rock to country to indie to R&B, as well as from his fellow producers. Below is just a sample of those who were touched by his work and life.

Tony Bennett, who had four of his albums in the last decade produced by Ramone, needed more than 140 characters to talk about Ramone. He posted the following message on his Facebook page:

Phil Ramone was a lovely person and a very gifted musician and producer. It was a joy to have him work with me in the recording studio on so many projects as he had a wonderful sense of humor and a deep love of music. Phil had the admiration and respect from everyone in the entertainment industry and his passing is a great loss.
