Former Pearl Jam Drummer Dave Abbruzzese Rails Against Exclusion from Rock ‘Hall of F—tardia’

Former Pearl Jam drummer Dave Abbruzzese isn’t keeping quiet about his displeasure over being excluded from the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

Abbruzzese took to Facebook Dec. 20, after it was announced that the band had been voted into the Hall, posting an update that quoted his “friend Kari” referring to the “Rock & Roll Hall of F—tardia” and adding, “It makes absolutely zero sense to me…I’m just gonna shove this statement up someone’s arse: ‘As the original ballot is created, the members of each eligible band are determined by largely who was present and active during the most influential recording years.’ I’m not sure how 275+ live shows and 38% of record sales doesn’t fit their criteria.”

As Abbruzzesse’s friend pointed out, his 1991-’94 tenure in the group lines up fairly squarely with some of their greatest success, including their bestselling Vs. and Vitalogy LPs. Although he initially settled mostly for letting Kari’s words make his argument, only thanking fans for their support and saying he’s looking forward to releasing his upcoming solo album, he weighed in again later in the day after his post started making the rounds.

“Thank you for voicing your opinion about this wackiness,” he wrote to Spin Doctors drummer Aaron Comess after Comess shared his support. “I am truly honored that you and so many people have raised up and called it like you see it. It has me overwhelmed for sure, but support such as yours has really got me digging the Hall of Fame that I am currently in. It’s the one where my friends and I are free to enjoy our time, our music and ourselves. It’s the hall that doesnt charge 10’s of thousands of dollars for a seat at the table.”

As previously reported, Abbruzzese made headlines earlier in the year when he initially took umbrage at his exclusion from the Rock Hall-nominated lineup, later insisting that he wasn’t feuding with his former bandmates or the Hall itself. “Let’s see if they do the right thing,” he suggested at the time. “It’ll be interesting to see the spin that is put on it. That band and its management have never been ones to shy away when an injustice is done. Let’s see if they still have the courage to fight the good fight!”
