The Pixies have unveiled ‘Bagboy,’ their first new song in nine years. ‘Bagboy’ arrived early this morning via an email from the group’s publicist and tweet from their official account, and there’s already a video up on YouTube (watch it below). The shocking news comes mere weeks after the Pixies announced the departure of bassist Kim Deal, who apparently does not play on the track, despite the presence of female vocals eerily similar to hers.

Fans can download ‘Bagboy’ here, and doing so gets you the single artwork pictured on the left. Recorded last October, the tune is a classic Pixies loud-soft rocker, and the video, directed by the duo LAMAR+NIK, fits nicely with singer Frank Black’s disturbing lyrics, which include the helpful hygiene tip “Cover your breath / polish your teeth.”

“The lyrics, coincidentally, were composed at a Starbucks Coffee in Harvard Square in Cambridge, about a hundred feet from where, 25 years ago, I composed some of the lyrics to an old Pixies song called ‘Break My Body,’” Francis says in a press release.

“Twenty-five years later, some Starbucks in Harvard Square … I thought that was kind of interesting,” he adds. “The music for the song has been around for a few years. There are some demos I made with [guitarist] Joey [Santiago] and [drummer] David [Lovering] a few years ago in Los Angeles, related to a film idea that still has yet to see the light of day, although work on the music continued.  So a lot of the musical idea had been kicking around for awhile.  It’s pretty simple, kind of a blues-based, two-note kind of thing, really.”

In the video, the titular ‘Bagboy,’ a young buck with some serious rage issues, runs amok in a suburban home, setting off smoke bombs, smashing dishes and even bathing in a tub filled with Fruit Loops. It takes on a particularly sinister vibe in the closing seconds, but we won’t spoil it for you.
