Watch R.E.M.’s Unboxing Video for ‘Out of TIme’ Deluxe Edition

Next Friday (Nov. 18), R.E.M. will release a 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of their 1991 smash album Out of Time. Today, they teased at the contents with an unboxing video, which is embedded above.

Over the strains of the hit single “Losing My Religion,” you see the contents of the 36-page book, which includes photos by Anton Corbijn and the liner notes from Diffuser’s own Annie Zaleski, who interviewed all four band members, producer Scott Litt and engineer John Keane. You also see all four discs, which are comprised of the original record, 19 demos, their performance on Live at Mountain Stage -- one of the few promotional appearances they made for the record -- and a Blu-ray containing Hi-Resolution and 5.1 surround sound mixes of the album, eight music videos and an electronic press kit called “Time Piece” that contains rare footage.

The band has released one of the demos, a version of “Radio Song” that features a verse sung by drummer Bill Berry. The finished version featured a rap from KRS-ONE of Boogie Down Productions.

Out of Time was R.E.M.’s second album for Warner Bros., following 1988’s Green and having spent the bulk of the decade on I.R.S. It solidified the band’s rise from the underground to one of the world’s biggest bands, topping the charts and selling four million copies in the U.S. while spawning two Top 10 singles in “Losing My Religion” and “Shiny Happy People.” Both songs were accompanied by videos that were in heavy rotation on MTV.
