Congratulations are in order for Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody: He’s scheduled to pick up an honorary doctorate at the University of Ulster next week.

The ceremony will make Lightbody a Doctor of Letters, in honor of what the Derry Journal calls his “services to the music industry.” Lightbody broke the news on Twitter, telling followers, “Going out to buy a suit in Edinburgh. Not for a court case. The University of Ulster are giving me an honorary doctorate on Tuesday. ‪#amazed‬”

The honor comes during a year of goodwill between Lightbody and Derry, where the University is located. Recently, Snow Patrol loaned the use of its song ‘Just Say Yes,’ originally featured on its 2009 compilation ‘Up to Now,’ to the city’s successful campaign to become the 2013 U.K. Capital of Culture.

The band’s most recent release, ‘Fallen Empires,’ broke the Billboard Top 5 after debuting in January, and has since been certified platinum in Ireland. They’ll spend this summer on the road in Europe and Asia, with a list of tour dates that includes stops in the U.K., Spain, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
