I haven't been staying up to date with comic books lately and I completely missed that news that Spider-Man was killed in an issue of Ultimate Spider-Man back in June. Where will the story go after its main protagonist has been slain? A new more diverse Spider-Man will emerge, says writers.

How exactly will the Peter Parker replacement be different? Of the details that were given, one interesting piece of information is that the hero, Miles Morales, will be half Black and half Hispanic. He will also exude a different array of powers than the previous Spider-Man. Axel Alonso, Marvel's Editor in Chief, had this to say,

What you have is a Spider-Man for the 21st century who’s reflective of our culture and diversity. We think that readers will fall in love with Miles Morales the same way they fell in love with Peter Parker.

The Ultimate Spider-Man series began breaking the mold back in its inception in 2000 by putting Spider-Man and its characters into a more modern and contemporary storyline. The series will continue this September with the new Spider-Man, Miles Morales dawning the web-crawling red suit.

Do you think this is a good move to re-brand the name Spider-Man? Should they have just created another character to the same specifications without tying him to the Spider-Man name? Or more interestingly, will Miles Morales ever hit the big screen?

The Ultimate Fallout comic hit floor shelves today.
