UPDATE: A standoff on Bozeman’s west side ended peacefully this morning when the fugitive was taken into custody.

Law enforcement negotiated for almost four hours this morning with Chad Earl Williams who was reportedly armed inside a home on Yerger Drive. Williams is listed on the Montana Department of Corrections website as a probation absconder. He was sentenced to prison in 1996 on charges of attempted deliberate homicide committed with a dangerous weapon.

Williams was taken into custody at around 10:15 a.m., according to Cpt. Jason Jarrett of the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office. Williams will be held at the Gallatin County Detention Center where the warrant from Missoula will be served. He will then make an initial appearance in Justice Court and eventually be transported back to Missoula.

The situation ended peacefully, according to Jarrett.

“Everything worked out good,” he said.
