You wouldn’t be caught dead walking the streets of Orlando, Florida.

On second thought, you just might.

The city, known for Disneyworld and family fun, has been named the most dangerous metro area in America for pedestrians by Transportation for America, also known as T4 America. Orlando-Kissimmee topped fellow Florida region Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater for the dubious honor.

In fact, you may want to think twice about ever stepping outside for anything short of your morning paper in Florida because the top four spots on the list are all in the Sunshine State.

The study took into account the total number of pedestrian deaths from 2000-2009, as well as the average number of pedestrian deaths on a yearly basis from the same period, while also coming up with the percent of people who walked to work between 2005 and 2009. Those numbers were all combined to create the Pedestrian Danger Index.

Out of the 52 metro areas analyzed, Boston-Cambridge-Quincy, Massachusetts-New Hampshire took last place.

T4 America points out just how serious an issue pedestrian safety is. Its data found nearly 48,000 pedestrians were killed between 2000 and 2009.
