Sufjan Stevens didn't waste any time leaving a sizable impression on the Coachella 2016 audience. The winged singer opened his set on Friday (April 15) night by leaping into the air and smashing his banjo during a performance of “Seven Swans.”

That was only the beginning of a spacey, neon-bright set that included a host of similarly brightly clad performers shooting off Day-Glo streamers and massive balloons. You can see photos of the whole affair, along with a full video of the singer's performance of “Vesuvius” and clips of “Chicago” and “Too Much,” at the bottom of the page.

Stevens is currently on tour behind last year's Carrie & Lowell. He just announced more summer concerts on top of the string of festival appearances he already had lined up. He will play shows at Red Rocks Amphitheare outside of Denver and the Filene Center at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Va., in July. He'll also return for Coachella's second weekend from April 22-24 with additional sets planned for Sasquatch!, Boston Calling, Pitchfork, Panorama and Outside Lands.
