The 2013 Oscar nominations were announced this morning and there were plenty of surprises this year. While there were plenty of Oscar nominations we expected - Daniel Day Lewis for 'Lincoln' or Anne Hathaway for 'Les Miserables' - there were also plenty of Oscar snubs. So who were the most notable names that got snubbed when the 2013 Oscar nominations were announced?

Adele Earns Oscar Nomination for 'Skyfall'

Adele has earned an Oscar nomination for 'Skyfall,' her theme song from the James Bond film of the same name. The British singer will compete for Best Original Song against four other tunes -- 'Before My Time,' from 'Chasing Ice'; 'Everybody Needs a Best Friend,' from 'Ted'; 'Suddenly,' from 'Les Miserables'; and 'Pi's Lullaby,' from 'Life of Pi' -- when the 85th Academy Awards are held in Los Angeles on Feb. 24.

Eddie Murphy Named Academy Awards Host

Looks like the rumors were true — actor and comedian Eddie Murphy has been officially tapped to host the 84th annual Academy Awards. Although Murphy has hosted other awards shows, this will be his first gig at the Oscars.

“Eddie is a comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever,” said show co-producer Brett Ratner, who also directed Murphy in the upcoming comedy ‘Tower Heist,’ due for release November 4. “With his love of movies, history of crafting unforgettable characters and his iconic performances — especially on stage — I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show.”
