Here's some good news for those of you who favor today's social media way more than say, a good old-fashioned television news cast AND are concerned about whether you may have picked up some bad eggs or beef the other day at the grocery store...the USDA is now on Twitter!

Food alerts (regarding: meat, poultry, and [processed] egg products) that are specified to the state will be tweeted with the tw0-letter abbreviation designated to that state, along with a FSISAlert. So if a product has been recalled in California, it will have the name followed by “CA_FSISAlert”

The USDA was previously announcing recalls on another Twitter feed (@USDAFoodSafety) but the new feeds will be more specific, as they will target the populations most likely affected. Full story at USDA.

Here's a complete list of the Twitter accounts for each state set up so far. Montana is not on it yet but you can see the most current list at fsis.usda.gov. Click on the state below to see the twitter feed. These are in addition to the USDA's main Twitter feed (@USDAFoodSafety).
