Already dangerous temperatures in southwest and central Montana are wreaking havoc on commutes. With another full day of brutal cold, the Billings area is under a Wind Chill Advisory until noon on Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service:

WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON MST THURSDAY.

  • IMPACTS - POTENTIAL FOR RAPID FROSTBITE TO EXPOSED SKIN.
  • TIMING - THROUGH TONIGHT.
  • WIND CHILL VALUES: 25 TO 45 DEGREES BELOW ZERO.
  • A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS.
  • THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.
  • IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS MAKE SURE YOU COVER ALL EXPOSED SKIN.
