Is The “Montana Way Of Life” In Danger?
I came across a video of a couple of folks driving across Montana. It was a couple of cowboys, and they were discussing the current state of affairs here in the Treasure State.
This wasn't the Montana that we see in all of the marketing ads. They weren't in Bozeman or Missoula, or some other trendy town that has become the darling of the Montana real estate industry. No, this was out there in the middle of nowhere, Montana.
One of the things the two cowboys discussed was how the Montana way of life is in danger of going extinct.
You see, as more folks move to the metropolitan areas of the state, that leaves fewer people to do all of the hard work that is required to feed the state and the nation. Agriculture is one of the biggest industries in Montana, and while there are still family farms and ranches, more and more of Montana is being purchased by giant corporations and wealthy individuals from out of state.

Is the Montana way of life in danger?
So, is that true? Is the "Montana way of life" in danger?
The two cowboys went on to talk about how traditional Montana values have been replaced with convenience and comfort. No longer are folks heading to church on Sunday; it's now basketball and baseball tournaments. No longer are folks willing to work 7 days a week; it's now about 4-day work weeks and 3-day weekends.
I suppose there is a lot of truth to that. Of course, many will blame those from other places for the decline across Big Sky Country, but the truth is, we just may be a little softer than we used to be.
Oh, and it seems that it's not just the "Montana way of life" that's in danger. Rural areas across the country are facing big challenges as it's become more big business and less mom and pop.
