[WATCH] Powerful Killer Hailstorm Causes Chaos Across Montana

Montanans are no strangers to wild weather, but few were prepared for a devastating hailstorm that tore through parts of the state on Monday afternoon, leaving a trail of destruction in its path.

Multiple stories of the storm's damage have been surfacing online. One family had their home flipped upside down by the strong winds, according to an article published on the KTVQ website.

The building blew nearly 20 feet from its foundation, landing on top of one of their vehicles and crushing it, along with destroying nearly everything inside.

The unexpected storm brought massive hail, some reported to be the size of tennis balls. The hail pummeled cars, rooftops, houses, windows, crops, and anything else left exposed.

The small town of Shephard, northeast of Billings, was the hardest hit by the storm. Photos on social media show the ground completely covered in a thick layer of hail following the storm.

The damage was widespread, and the high winds and large hail, and farmers are still working to assess the damage. Some crops have been completely destroyed and will have to be replanted.

The Conquer the Storm page on Facebook shared photos of the destruction of one home in Shepherd, Montana.

Dozens of residents shared shocking images and videos of the destruction, showing dented vehicles, damaged siding, and entire crops destroyed in minutes.

While hailstorms are not unheard of in Big Sky Country, this one served as a powerful reminder of how fast the weather can turn, and just how destructive it can be.
