Avalanche Warning

It's been one of the most challenging winters in Montana for avalanche conditions. Weak early snowpack in several parts of Montana started off the season with a terrible base. Warm conditions, then large snow dumps haven't made for a stable back country experience for most of the season.

Yet another round of big snow has fallen on southwest Montana, hitting the southern mountains especially hard with another foot of snow. An Avalanche Warning has been issued again by the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center, as the danger of triggering a deadly avalanche is high.

Lots of fresh snow with more to come today, combined with an unstable snowpack AND heavy winds is yet again creating very dangerous conditions in the backcountry of southwest Montana. Details are here of a new Avalanche Warning.

The storms and atmospheric rivers that have been invading the entire northwest of the country, isn't skipping Montana mountain ranges. Avalanche danger has risen significantly and may continue to rise this week for several counties and their Montana mountain ranges.

The Flathead Avalanche Center has issued an Avalanche Warning the Flathead Range and the Lake McDonald and Marias Pass areas of Glacier National Park until Friday morning.

Northwestern Montana mountain areas are experiencing dangerous avalanche conditions, prompting an Avalanche Warning to be issued.

Snow, wind, rain and warm temps have again prompted the GNFAC to issue an Avalanche Warning for Friday.
