A light fire season means some big savings for Montana’s fire suppression fund. The state expects to spend about 19 million dollars on fighting fires each year recently, but Montana State Forester with the DNRC Bob Harrington says we’ve only barely dipped into the fund so far this year.

Crews made considerable progress yesterday on the Lava Lake Fire and were able to completely contain the blaze.

The next time you visit the 6-Mile Drainage, it's going to look different. But after the devastating wildfire this summer, at least you're allowed back in. Details from the Forest Service here:

Starting tonight (August 21st) at 5pm - a burn ban is in effect in Bozeman city limits.  Conditions continue to be dry and warm, and the fire ban will be in effect until further notice from fire officials. Barbeque grills, approved outdoor fireplaces and other contained appliances are still allowed to be used...

There was a massive fire last night at the Country Mall Antiques on Huffine Lane.  It started as a vehicle fire that quickly spread to the building.  People reported seeing large flames and lots of smoke.  Here's the press release from the Gallatin Media Center.

Here are the latest details on the fire that was sparked a week and a half ago by lightning and know as the Emigrant Fire from the National Forest Service:

The National Forest Service has issued an update tonight on area wildfires. With prolonged hot weather and not very much rain, fire danger remains moderate to high in our area.

The fire is believed to have been ignited by a thunderstorm on Wednesday afternoon south of Emigrant Peak in Paradise Valley south of Livingston, MT. The fire is approximately 30 acres as of 7pm on Sunday.
