If you heard today's Avalanche Report on The Moose, you know that the current Avalanche Danger across southwest Montana is rated as Moderate, but that doesn't mean that slides can not easily be triggered in the backcountry. Mark Staples from the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center demonstrated this yesterday in Cooke City. Check it out.

The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center is issuing a Backcountry Avalanche Warning for the Southern Madison and Southern Gallatin Ranges and the Lionhead area near West Yellowstone. Yesterday, winter officially ended with the Equinox.  Saying good-bye to an old, reliable friend is difficult, but spring seems full of energy and ready to play. It started snowing early this morning and at 6 a.m six inches of wet, dense snow has fallen in the mountains.
