Growing up, Johnny Depp was so obsessed with Barnabas Collins, the lead character from the Gothic soap opera ‘Dark Shadows,’ that he later admitted he wanted to be him.
Now Depp gets to play Collins, a vampire who was buried alive in 1752 and then mistakenly dug up in 1972, in Tim Burton’s film adaptation of the legendary cult series. (Depp playing a fish-out-of-water weirdo? Say it ain’t so!)
If you’re a child of the ’80s, you might remember ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ the Patrick Dempsey high school comedy which hit theaters on August 14, 1987. Smack dab in the middle of the film, Seth Green, who plays Dempsey’s younger brother, strikes a pose which modern audiences would immediately recognize as ‘Tebowing.”
During a talk Sunday at the South By Southwest Festival, ‘Family Guy’ creator Seth MacFarlane confirmed that he’s working on new episodes of the legendary cartoon series ‘The Flintstones.’ Yabba Dabba Doo!
Last month, two-year-old Natalie was getting ready to take off on a JetBlue flight with her parents and her sister from Turks and Caicos to Boston. As two-year-olds are wont to do, little Natalie started to throw a fit. After about five minutes of some pretty intense screaming, Dr. Colette Vieau and her husband, Dr. Mordecai Stolk, were able to get their toddler under control and strapped into her seat.
But the pilot of the plane had already heard enough, and made the decision to return to the gate and eject the family from the flight for violating FAA regulations.
You can tell that President Barack Obama is gearing up for the 2012 election because he is starting to do a lot of interviews. He even granted ESPN’s “Sports Guy” Bill Simmons a chat in the White House, where talk inevitably turned to New York Knicks point guard and “linternet linsation” Jeremy Lin.
The Lindsay Lohan comeback tour is more than just this weekend’s much ballyhooed stop on ‘Saturday Night Live.‘ She also sat down for an interview with ‘Today’s’ Matt Lauer, which aired Thursday.
‘Today’ had been teasing their high-profile “get” all week, and Conan O’Brien made a little mischief with those promos Wednesday night. (One has to imagine Conan takes particular glee in spoofing NBC shows such as ‘Today.’)
During his post Oscar special, Jimmy Kimmel did a skit in which he pitched Oprah programming ideas for her OWN network. While clearly a spoof, some of Kimmel’s ideas, like ‘Fight Club Book Club‘ would’ve been sort of great.
‘Saturday Night Live’ was thinking about running a very similar skit during the show last week, with host Maya Rudolph doing her famous Oprah impression. But it didn’t make the final cut. However, SNL has released the dress rehearsal footage for the never aired Weekend Update segment on their website.
It has come to Conan O’Brien’s attention that a Chinese talk show called ‘Da Pang’ has lifted his show’s opening almost frame-for-frame without his permission. While they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, this has irked O’Brien. And when you see all the weird stuff that happens on ‘Da Pang’ after the opening you will see why.
