Spring is a challenging time for us folks who like to garden in Gallatin County. I'm no expert or degree holder in horticulture but I DO feel your pain.
Ski season ain't done so neither is Mother Nature. Several Montana counties are under Winter Weather Advisories. The highest elevations could get 7" of fresh snow and at least a couple inches of slushy snow is expected on several mountain passes.
Fire Weather Watches in the first week of March are not a great thing to see. Many counties in South Dakota along with a few in Wyoming are facing just that, this weekend.
The Flathead Avalanche Center has issued an Avalanche Warning the Flathead Range and the Lake McDonald and Marias Pass areas of Glacier National Park until Friday morning.
Man, these gusty winds are just not letting up through the Livingston area and the I-90 corridor towards Billings. Gusts up to 65 MPH are expected through this Friday.
Gusty winds are going to continue through Gallatin County with snow joining the fun. Not much accumulation is expected in town, but the mountains could see up to 6" of fresh snow.
At least a dozen counties have some sort of Wind Advisory or Winter Weather Advisory in effect for this weekend with wind gusts up to 60 MPH in some locations.
Another round of very gusty wind are in store for Livingston and areas east, down the I-90 corridor. Travel may be difficult at times and extra caution should be used when driving a high profile vehicle or when towing anything.
The northern portion of Montana hasn't warmed up nearly as quickly as southwest Montana. Wednesday night and Thursday morning will bring very gusty winds, causing dangerous wind chills to several counties.
