Coldplay‘s ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ has been named the favorite album of all time by BBC radio listeners. The 2002 album tops an eclectic list that also finds Keane‘s 2004 record ‘Hopes and Fears’ standing tall at the No. 2 spot, beating out classics from the likes of the Rolling Stones, the Beatles and Queen. The top album was revealed today (April 1) by DJ Jo Whiley at the end of a countdown that ran throughout the day.

Fans of the U.K. radio stations Radio 2, BBC4 and 6 Music were polled about their favorite albums in February during the BBC radio special the Golden Age of the Album, which featured a series of broadcasts celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ format-defining 1963 release ‘Please Please Me.’ And diehard music fans may shudder to think that Coldplay grabbed the top slot of the chart, Radio 2 head Jeff Smith isn’t surprised by the results.

“Musicians such as Coldplay and Dido have struck a chord with listeners and are in good company in the top 10 alongside legendary bands like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, whose appeal remains undiminished after all these years,” says Smith.
