Dave Grohl Covers Neil Young With Pearl Jam + Blind Melon Members
Dave Grohl isn't letting his broken leg slow him down. Before Foo Fighters played their July 4 concert at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC, Grohl jammed with some other musicians at a nearby motorcycle rally.
Grohl, original Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen, Blind Melon guitarist Christopher Thorn, Jonny Kaplan and Foo Fighters keyboardist Rami Jafee played Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl" and the Rolling Stones classic "Bitch." You can check out a video of them performing "Cinnamon Girl" above.
Grohl was seated in a simple folding chair with his broken leg propped up on another chair. That's in contrast to his setup for the RFK Stadium concert later that night, where he performed while seated on a customized Foo Fighters throne.
Foo Fighters played Saturday night's concert on the 20th anniversary of the release of their self-titled debut album. Grohl told Kerrang about making the transition from Nirvana drummer to Foo Fighters frontman. He explained, ”I felt like I had nothing to lose and I didn’t necessarily wanna be the drummer of Nirvana for the rest of my life without Nirvana. I thought I should try something I’d never done before and I’d never stood up in front of a band and been the lead singer, which was f–king horrifying and still is!”
Foo Fighters' next show is July 8 in Toronto. They'll be playing several concerts each month into October. For all their dates, go here.
